My GameJam Experience - by Jorge Carty Diaz

My GameJam Experience
By: Jorge Carty Diaz

On Saturday December 1st, 2018 a GameJam organized by Games For Change and more, took place in Samsung NEXT's facilities. This event was very fun and educational, giving us an idea of what game developing looks like and how game developers struggle during their stage of creation.

In this event, I've learned some of the key factors a game needs; challenge, name, rules, goal, etc. We also learned how important it is to write our ideas in paper and plan it out before we get into digital designing.

I was introduced to a website that allows you to create games using very simple drag and place coding that if you take your time, you would be able to design something very nice. This website is called "Scratch". The website's layout looked very simple and complex at the same time, having so many options for animation and also clickable buttons and allows you to do many things. We were able to get in a group and design a game that was related to the topic discussed that day which was "Automated Communities" and if the games was related to the topic mentioned before, you were able to submit it and qualify for a competition that has many prizes like $1,000 scholarships and more.

I've learned that with the most basic codes, you are able to create many things that can be fun and can take many hours of someone's everyday. I have also learned that teamwork is the key, how many ideas together and form a single powerful conclusion and that conclusion is our game.
